February President’s Report
February is “the month of love” so I would like to take the time to tell all the Executive and staff how grateful I am for all that they do to keep our Legion moving forward. I am also grateful for all the loyal members who support their Legion. Together we can move forward well into the future.
At the Friday Legion Meat Raffles, we have had more new volunteers signing up. Thank you to them. Thank you to all the volunteers who work our bingos as well or volunteer in other capacities around the Legion, especially the Maintenance Committee.
Our Pool Players have earned a birth in the Legion Provincial Pool and the Dart Players have earned their way to Innisfail for the Legion Provincial Darts. Best of luck to all the team members. Just a reminder in order to receive financial assistance as a member representing the Legion, you must volunteer a minimum three different times in a Legion activity. Otherwise, we just pay for your registration.
Robertson Memorial would like to get a group of volunteers together to visit our veterans in the local senior homes. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the office. Once we have some volunteers, we will need to contact the Senior homes to find out where our veterans are, so we could visit them.
I sent thank you cards to Manitoulin Transport for their $1000 and the Medicine Hat Brewing company for their $400 donation to Robertson Memorial. Their generosity is much appreciated. Thanks to the kind donation of $4000 from the Ladies Auxiliary, we will be able to repair the garage roof as soon as weather permits in the spring.
As you are probably aware Rafflebox is up and running. Thank you to all who have bought tickets already. The Lotteries committee is already thinking of fund-raising ideas for the rest of the year. Thank you to all who bought tickets on the awesome Valentine Basket. We made $420 on the basket. Just a reminder that we have a Casino on June 30th and July 1st. Let the Office know if you are interested and what position you would like to fill.
As requested, we invited the card players to come down to the Legion every afternoon, but no one so far had taken advantage. If you would like to play, come on down. Have fun with your friends.
We have an update on the Rolling Barrage, which is approximately 100 Veteran motorcyclist crossing Canada. A meal and reception are planned for August 15th in the Ortona Room. Thank you to Malcolm Glass for stepping up and being the intermediary between the Rolling Barrage and our Legion.
Planning has begun on making sure we have the correct phone numbers and email addresses for our members who want us to have them. Just a quick heads up, our Veteran’s Dinner is planned for May 27th. More information to follow. We are also planning a Barbecue for the summer months.
If you have an activity you would like to see happen, call the Office. No word yet on the Dominion Convention. We will send out as soon as we receive it.
Yours in Comradeship
Sheila Donner, President
