February President’s Report

President’s Report February 2022

February even though it was a short month proved to be a busy one as we discussed how to get ready for the reopening possibility on March 1st of our Pool and Darts. Good news Legion Members will be able to play free pool all day Sunday in the Pub for the months of March, April and May. Non-members will pay $5.00 for the whole day of play on Sundays for these months. During the week and on Saturdays members will pay $5.00 and non-members will pay $8.00.

Drop-In Darts will begin Thursday March 3 and Senior Darts will start up on Thursday afternoon on March 3rd. A big thank you to Darwin for organizing a Pool tournament for March 12th and to Sandra and Steve for their Trivia nights and the Dart shoot they have planned for March 5th.

It was discussed and decided that draft beer would no longer be available in the canteen. The canteen does not sell very much draft beer and because the machine needs to be replaced and we cannot afford it, it was decided to sell just bottled and canned beer. We were losing money on the draft as well over the years because no one ordered very much except on November 11th.

The following groups have their meetings at the Legion- Kiwanis, RUSI, Aviation Club, Teamsters, The Fire Fighters Union, CAVS, Western Wrestling, once a month. We already have other groups and shows calling for possible bookings. Next time you are in the Legion, if you have not already seen the new room in the basement, ask for a tour. It truly is amazing and if we are successful in getting the New Horizon Grant for Seniors, it will be even more amazing with the overhead projector, screen, computer and all the tables and chairs needed to make it a comfortable meeting room.

The Alberta/NWT Convention Dates were discussed and an email with regards to the Convention was forwarded to all Legion members. The Convention will take place in Red Deer May 6- 8, 2022. Please let the Office know if you are interested in attending.

Robertson Memorial Br #17 is planning a re-re opening for March 25th during the Meat Raffle with Beef on a Bun, Baked Beans and coleslaw for $10.00. We are still in the planning stages so stay tuned for more details.

The telephone Campaign will continue next week. Thank you to Roger for making the phone calls and making the contact with our members or those who have not renewed memberships.

The By-Laws were approved at the General Meeting. Since ours were out of date Command required us to just have up to date signatures. Nothing was changed and they remained the same. We needed to have the turn-around completed by March 31.

The Branch is planning the Veterans’ Dinner for Saturday May 14th. We have decided to combine it with the 95th Anniversary Celebration for our Legion. If anyone would like to get involved in planning and organizing this special event please call the Office.

The Branch is planning to honour some of our amazing volunteers after the General Meeting in April. We are hoping this will include wine and cheese after the presentation of the Appreciation Certificates.

Thank you to all those who have volunteered to work our Meat Raffle and to those who have loyally supported the legion during difficult time of the past two years. Thank you to the Office and Bar Staff and our Kitchen staff for working so hard during the Pandemic because we were short staffed. Please know that all your efforts were all very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you all again, Masks are optional but we still have hand sanitizer available. Hopefully, we are open for business for the long term.

Yours in Comradeship,

Sheila Donner
